Seeking an Apprenticeship, Trainee Position, or Entry-Level Role in Civil Engineering
After completing my A levels, I developed this independent study programme to continue strengthening my engineering drawing, CAD modelling, and technical communication skills while pursuing apprenticeship, trainee, and entry-level opportunities in civil engineering. Each study was chosen to introduce new engineering principles and gradually increase in complexity, encouraging me to observe real objects, understand how they are designed and manufactured, and communicate those ideas through engineering drawings and CAD models.
The studies progress from simple geometry and individual components to mechanical systems, precision instruments, and complete assemblies. Rather than focusing on artistic ability, they develop engineering observation, dimensional accuracy, and the ability to communicate technical information clearly.
Completed after finishing my A Levels, this study marked the start of my independent engineering drawing studies. Using a simple wooden pencil, I focused on observing, measuring, and recreating basic geometric forms before moving on to more complex engineering components and assemblies.
Building on the skills developed in Study 1, this study used a Phillips screwdriver to explore more complex geometry and reverse engineering techniques. By recreating the screwdriver using engineering drawings and CAD, I developed a deeper understanding of ergonomic design, feature-based modelling, and communicating engineering intent.

Planned.
Each study documents the complete process, from observing and measuring the physical object to producing accurate engineering drawings and CAD models. As a series, they demonstrate how my observation, design thinking, dimensional accuracy, and technical communication skills are continuing to develop alongside the practical projects presented elsewhere in this portfolio.
This is an ongoing series. Future studies will introduce additional manufacturing methods, increasingly complex assemblies, and higher levels of precision as I continue to develop my engineering knowledge and practical experience.
